Carrier Park /Velodrome

Today's brief article will introduce you to Carrier Park, which is where you'll find Asheville's velodrome and some other sports facilities.  This Park is located at 220 Amboy RoadAt the City's Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts website the Park's features are summarized:

"One of Asheville's premiere parks offers volleyball courts, a giant playground, a roller-hockey rink, basketball courts, multi-use track/velodrome, a lawn bowling court, paved trail and multi-use sports fields for baseball or soccer.  Our largest picnic shelter is located within the park a well as a nature walk with river overlooks and a wetland interpretive educational trail.  Located on Amboy Rd. and Michigan Ave. in west Asheville."

I first learned of this park when a biker friend told me about the velodrome facility located there.  I visited the Park and truly enjoyed its beautiful riverside location, the velodrome and its other facilities.  If you're in the area, the Park is worth a visit, even if you're not inclined to use the velodrome, the volleyball courts, the baseball field or any of the other sports-oriented facilities - the park also affords a scenic walking trail along the river bank.   By the way, the pictures presented in this article were taken today, 11/5/09.

Carrier Park's facilities offer a great way to enjoy a beautiful mountain day.  The Park is not far from downtown, via Meadow Road, and is also easily accessible from I240.  Carrier Park is only a mile from the French Broad River Park/Dog Park, another nice City Park that will be the topic of an upcoming article on this blog.  So...... grab your bike, your ball and glove, or just a good pair of walking shoes and make use of some of the fine outdoor facilities you have access to when Living in Asheville, North Carolina.
